Nobody Blogs Anymore

Is a post every eight years still considered blogging?

Blogging still works for some people.  It's got some utility to a business/marketing presence to gather search-engine hits and to show that a business is actively working in the space of interest where its customers live.  For individuals though, while I know of a few people who blog their daily lives occasionally, I know of very few people who follow a blog regularly.

As a supplement to another, more immediate or more engaging presence, I can see a blog making sense.  People see your YouTube du jour and want to know more about what you're up to, so visit your blog and read a few posts.   Or the way I was using it, rather than post a big thread to Twitter, I'd expound more verbosely on here.  It also serves as a handy way to share some links to other information beyond the short quip one might post to a social media site.

I've long since ditched Twitter in favour of Mastodon which I find very nice and much more engaging than the ol' Bird Site.  As mentioned eight years have ticked by without having an urge to share something on here.

When I was changing up my Twitter avatar with a different designer chair every few months, the blog was a great spot to share not only details of the latest chair, but archive the earlier ones.  That was a lot of fun.

When I ran a weekly series of Twitter posts on fine-art works that I love, and my thoughts about them, this blogging platform was great for the wordy-version of the posts.  That had a small but appreciative following, and I enjoyed that a lot, though it was quite a bit of effort for a Monday morning.

Anyway - you might see an occasional flurry of activity here… or perhaps I'll be back in 2033 for a brief update.
